'Ruck'
‘Ruck’ is a work made in
response to a piece of music by contemporary international composer
Duncan MacLeod, a regular musical collaborator for Jambon.
Part of the idea behind the music (originally commissioned by the
Goldberg Ensemble) was the concept of something bubbling under the
surface.
Jambon’s response to this was to pull two sets of US governmental
archive footage together – one film depicting how 1950s teenagers
should be courting one another, and the second from the same era
showing young men being subjected to atomic bomb blast experiments
in the desert. These two films were cut to the music track and then
layered on to one another.
The work was premiered at the Muziekgebouwaan'tij in Amsterdam.
